Meet Mikesha Lacy

School attended: Makeup Designory (MUD) in Burbank, CA

Q: What is your favorite aspect of being a leader?

A: My favorite aspect of being a leader is the decision making component and being able to be creative and implement those ideas. I love creativity, different ideas and sharing those ideas with others.

Q: What advice do you have for women aspiring to be leaders in their field?

A: Advice that I would give women aspiring to become leaders is to not give up, you may get 100 no's but it only takes one yes. Stand on your ideas and what you believe in. What others may not understand does not mean it isn't possible or does not make sense. It only means that you are a creator who has visions and that to me is very important in becoming a leader.

Q: Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Why and how did this person impact your life?

A: A person who I look up to would be Shanna Cistulli. She made a tremendous impact in my life because she showed me in school that makeup artistry has every component of being a leader: communication, creativity, ability to delegate, confidence, commitment, and positive attitude. I use these elements each and every time I work with a client and I apply those same skills in leadership. She showed me the importance of putting positive energy into everything you do. What makes you a strong leader is not only being able to lead, but to listen and be able to communicate your thoughts with others.

Q: Approximately how many years have you been involved with CWLI?

A: I have been a member for over one year.

Q: What strides do you think members can take to make more of a difference in women’s leadership issues in the local community?

A: The steps needed to take in making a bigger difference women's leadership is awareness. We could reach more people and discuss how women are becoming more in power today and show examples of women in leadership and also how exciting it is for women to be in certain places. We should also start speaking to younger women in the community and hold events where young ladies will not only be inspired, but mentored. There is a huge need for the community to understand why CWLI is so important and how this organization can change the lives of many.

Q: How would you best describe the benefit found in joining this organization?

A: The benefit for me joining CWLI is the networking opportunity and to have a place to go where people share similar AND different struggles. I love being around women who are strong leaders and who are willing to help other women no matter what the race, background or job title. We all can benefit from each other in some way - know there is someone here to help you gain knowledge and strength.
