Leadership
What is your favorite aspect of being a leader?

I like organizing groups and being part of a team that makes things happen.

What advice do you have for women aspiring to be leaders in their field?

Find that one thing that makes you happy and fulfilled. Get involved on committees that make sense to you. Find your niche, your strengths, and work on developing your ‘brand’. Good things happen to those who work hard for causes for which they are passionate. Passion speaks.

Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Maybe someone who has been a mentor to you? Why and how did this person impact your life?

My dad. He is a great listener and knows how to make the person he is speaking with at that moment feel like they are the only person in the room. Find something that connected you to each person with whom you have a conversation.

My parents both taught me to work hard, take responsibility for my actions, and to be humble about my accomplishments. They taught me that not everyone needs to be ‘in charge’ and that to make a difference, all you really need to do is commit yourself to that moment or cause.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing female leaders today?

Trying to ‘do it all’ and not accomplishing big things because they are spread too thin.

CWLI
Approximately how many years have you been involved with CWLI?

2 years.

On what committees have you participated?

I’m part of the networking committee and I attended the Finance in the Boardroom series.

With what other community organizations/activities are you involved?

Board Member & Volunteer with Humane Educational Society. I like to swim, cycle, and am part of the Kappa Delta Alumni Association.

What initiatives are you excited to tackle with CWLI?

Women in politics.

What changes do you hope to see in the organization as it grows?

Supporting and encouraging more women to get involved in politics—either out front or behind the scenes.

What strides do you think members can take to make more of a difference in women’s leadership issues in the local community?

Find that one thing (or two) that motivates your passion and get involved in it—join a board, become a volunteer, work as a leader or heavy lifter.

How would you best describe the benefit found in joining this organization?

Friendships among peers based on mutual respect, support, and encouragement.
